Calm Steady Strong(tm) by Susi: Free yoga classes for people who have experienced cancer and their loved ones.
Well...I have decided to raise the bar. This past week I officially created the Calm-Steady-Strong by Susi(tm) to bring free yoga classes to people who have been impacted by cancer - whether directly as a patient, or as a loved one. Through this organization, I will be providing funding to people to take group yoga classes with trained teachers in Calgary and surrounding areas.
If you, a friend or loved one has experienced cancer, please join me and my instructors at a local class specifically designed for people who have had a cancer experience. Scroll down for more info.
Please forward this link on to others who have gone through cancer.
I have started the Calm-Steady-Strong by Susi(tm) for one BIG reason. We are all well aware that there is funding and treatment for people going through the disease crisis, and conventional medicine has done an amazing job at integrating nutrition and psychology for patients. We are also well aware of the many charities and organizations which raise money for researching a cure. BUT. . . there is very little, if any, funding available for people and their loved ones after they finish treatment. I call that place the "NOW".
In my 13 years teaching cancer survivors, too often students would say some version of the following, "When treatment was over, the doctor told me to go and live life . . . I really wasn't sure what to do . . . my family and friends are happy for me . . . why am I not as happy as they are . . . I was fighting this for months...now what?"
These yoga classes are an answer to "now what?" An opportunity to move beyond surviving - to a place that is Calm, Steady and Strong(tm).
Calm-Steady-Strong, designed by Susi(tm) is based on the yoga for cancer survivors (also called yogathrive) protocol that I created for the University of Calgary in 2001. U of C has been studying the protocol since 2002 and results have shown improvements in fitness, quality of life, fatigue, ability to sleep, mood and a reduction of side and/or latent effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Over the past 3 years I have trained over 300 yoga teacher around the world to use the protocol and classes can be found across Canada, in the US, and as far abroad as the Channel Islands, Amsterdam, Riyadh, and Australia.
Calm-Steady-Strong(tm) will be rolling out 5 free classes this spring in Calgary, Didsbury, and in Shelbourne, ON. All classes are by registration only. Click here for more details (I need to send you details for Shelbourne).
