YOU WANT Start a WALKING ROUTINE BUT EVERY TIME YOU DO, YOU HURT YOURSELF.


You have great goals for starting a walking program.


You want to get going, but you are concerned about flaring up your knee, foot, back or SI joint because each time you have begun a walking program in the past, that nagging strain or ache starts acts up a week or so into your new routine, sidelining any progress.


This time you want your result to be different.


You know there is a better way. 


You want a walking a Program that helps you to be stronger in your body and calmer in your mind.  


A program that truly helps both your body and your mind, and a program that helps prevents your nagging pain from coming back.

Sometimes there is confusion and conflict between WHAT YOU “SHOULD DO” AND WHAT YOUR "BODY IS FEELING" 


Much of the information  about walking programs offers impersonal ideas about how often or for how long you should walk to gain benefit.  


This has people fall into the common "3 x a week for 20 minute"  routine, or the classic "all or nothing 30 day challenge".


They put on the right shoes, grab their water bottle, and hit the road or treadmill pumping their arms getting their heart rate up.


And while these can provide inspiration, and a place to start . . . 

 . . . they can be the very catalyst that leads to pain and re-injury,  no further along to the desired outcome. 

Most Re-injury happens when people "Push through" the Small TweAks, Twinges or Pains (like Knee, Foot or Back Sensations), thinking those sensations aren't a Big Deal . . .   



And the reality is that those sensations aren't a big deal. . . . (but they are indicators that something is up!) 


This is why when you experience those sensations, it is so easy to to think ... "well it isn't that big bad pain, and if I don't push through I won’t get the miles in and I won’t get stronger or fitter....Could really be THAT bad?"


Welllll …  for many people "pushing through" can work.  They are okay with feeling that nagging strain in their knee or back. 


But for others, this "pushing through" is the first sign of "not listening to your body" which can lead to more injury, slower progress, and more frustration. 



When you listen to your body when it whispers, you won't have to hear it scream


And . . .  you will get so much stronger  . . .  faster.


This is the missing piece for some many people - actually listening to their body, and acting on what they hear.  

Your body is consistently communicating to you - hunger signals, thirst signals, needing to rest or sleep signals.


And yes, signals that let you know when is enough for walking.... and also . . . when to speed up, slow down, push harder, stop and stretch.


As you learn to listen and hear what your body is saying, you will make your gains in a much more progressive, deliberate and quicker way. 


By going slower at first, you end up to your desired goal faster and feeling better - feeling stronger, more stable, and much more at ease.

I have worked with a lot of people to help them get out of pain, and then get back to the activities they love. Often it begins with walking, in a way that truly honours their body, and their body's signals so they can learn to walk more easily, more freely and have longer more sustainable gains. 

I am Susi Hately, Your instructor


I have a BSC. Kinesiology and have been helping people reduce and eradicate pain for almost 30 years. 


I blend science-based biomechanics and anatomy with the ancient wisdom of yoga to help my clients gain awareness and clarity on how their body is communicating with them.  


This integration of body and mind has enabled be to be a bridge between the medical world and yoga.  Two of my programs have been studied at the University of Calgary (one on cancer recovery and another on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) and both showed benefit for supporting people and their wellbeing. 


My clients are or have been active and want to get back to being active again - with Olympic Luge and Speed Skating teams, elite-level basketball players, skiers, and runners.


Many sit behind computers, run businesses and are figuring out how to fit in all they want to do in a day.


They have sought me out because they all want to feel better, move better, and just back to the life they want to live.

I was someone who wanted to have a walking program, but each time - within about a week of starting - I would hurt myself. I was motivated, probably too motivated and I got ahead of myself... and ahead of my body. Once I learned to listen, walking became easy, and pain free.
